Overview

QXO, Inc. is the largest publicly traded distributor of roofing, waterproofing, and related products, and the second largest publicly traded distributor of lumber and building materials in North America. The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and operational issues on a variety of equipment.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Remove, repair, reinstall, and adjust components such as engines, fuel systems, and related mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services including lubrication, inspections, fluid changes, and component replacement.
  • Conduct safety inspections and operational checks in accordance with company standards.
  • Respond to service calls and emergency repair requests as needed.
  • Assist customers and internal teams with equipment-related concerns and service recommendations.
  • Support equipment troubleshooting and operational guidance.
  • Maintain professional communication regarding repair status, timelines, and service requirements.
  • Prepare repair estimates and service recommendations.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance records, and repair documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain communication with management regarding repair progress, equipment condition, and operational concerns.
  • Track maintenance activities and support equipment history documentation.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Ensure repairs and maintenance activities comply with company standards and applicable regulations.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and operational risks promptly.
  • Work closely with service personnel, operations teams, and customers to support business needs.
  • Assist with training and mentoring team members as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and repair documentation.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on equipment maintenance or repair experience.
  • Experience with construction, industrial, agricultural, rental, or heavy equipment.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, fuel, and engine systems.
  • Experience with computerized diagnostics and work order systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Work is performed in shop, yard, warehouse, and field service environments.
  • Exposure to machinery, moving equipment, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Ability to lift and move materials and components (up to 75 lbs as required).
  • May require travel for field service calls and emergency repairs.
  • May require extended hours based on operational needs.
