Overview
We are looking for an experienced Welder to join our production team at Sunbelt Solomon, responsible for the fabrication and welding of various components used in the manufacturing and repair of transformers. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with metal fabrication and welding techniques, and be able to interpret engineering drawings to ensure high-quality builds.
Responsibilities
- Weld and assemble transformer components including tanks, radiator fins, brackets, and structural parts.
- Use MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding techniques based on material and project requirements.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
- Ensure proper fit-up and alignment of welded parts using jigs, clamps, and measuring tools.
- Perform grinding, cutting, and surface preparation prior to and after welding.
- Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Repair cracks, leaks, or damage on transformer tanks or components as required.
- Operate hand tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other shop equipment safely.
- Maintain welding equipment and tools provided by the organization.
- Communicate with engineering, quality, and production teams regarding design changes or fabrication issues.
- Mentor novice welders in the area of welding and fabrication.
- Support continuous improvement efforts in welding and fabrication processes.
- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly workstation.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; welding trade school or technical training preferred.
- 3-5 years of welding experience required.
- Air arc gouging, plasma cutting, and stud gun experience required.
- Proven experience in welding oil or liquid filled tanks required.
- Complete and pass pre-employment and annual respiratory fit testing in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Proficient in welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) on mild and stainless steel.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, and welding symbols.
- Knowledge of ASME or AWS welding codes is a plus.
- AWS Certified Welder (or equivalent) preferred.
- A proven track record in safety excellence is required.
- Adheres to all safety and environmental compliance regulations set by the organization.
- Meet department and production goals set by supervisor.
- Ensure product quality meets company and client expectations.
- Possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, cooperative attitude, and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to learn other department job functions and fill in as needed.
- Complete company compliance and safety training when required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and work under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.

Additional Information
- Work schedule is Monday - Thursday 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Physical requirements include lifting 50lbs, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, and climbing ladders.
