Overview

RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, is hiring a TIG Welder for their Burnsville site. The role involves welding and some avionics repair activities in an FAA regulated environment, requiring technical expertise and the ability to work with minimal instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Position parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or welding positions.
  • Select torch, torch tips, filler rods, and fluxes as prescribed by blueprints.
  • Connect regular valves and bases to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders.
  • Turn regulators and flow meters to activate flow of gases.
  • Set prescribed amperage, gas flow, speeds, and feeds to obtain desired welds.
  • Hold torches at proper angles to joints to be welded.
  • Apply filler rods to molten area to form welds.
  • Interpret schematics and/or technical drawings.
  • Weld, braze, and cut various metals according to specifications.
  • Examine welds for bead size, penetration, and other specifications.
  • Perform various types of welds as required.
  • Grind off excess slag or spatter.
  • Clean parts using solvent.
  • Repair welds by referring to rejection sheets and interpreting x-ray sheets.
  • Select suitable welding equipment and make required settings.
  • Follow blueprints and guidelines to ensure product specifications are met.
  • Maintain materials, equipment, and work area in a clean condition.
  • Complete assigned tasks within the scope of the job description.
  • Check work methods and results for conformance to standards.
  • Utilize a variety of electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and test repair units.
  • Communicate with technicians, engineering, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a HS Diploma with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Must have previous welding experience in a manufacturing or service environment.
  • 2+ years’ experience with aviation manufacturing or repair is preferred.
  • Holds or has ability to obtain Preliminary MRB authorization.
  • Experience reviewing CMM/SB documentation and creating mark-ups is preferred.

Additional Information

  • This is a 2nd shift position with hours Monday-Friday, 3:00-11:30 PM.
  • The position is onsite at 14300 Judicial Rd, Burnsville, MN.
