Overview

This job posting is for skilled trade welders to fill openings throughout Southeast Michigan. Welders will be compensated with a competitive hourly rate and provided with comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Use electricity and torches to produce heat and solder together components made from various metals.
  • Weld small components for residential use and large components like pipelines and beams.
  • Consult blueprints and sketches to execute jobs and tasks to specification.
  • Assess equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods.
  • Monitor equipment for appropriate usage and temperature.
  • Maintain knowledge of universal standards and specifications to meet building codes.
  • Develop knowledge of methods used for welding various materials and components.
  • Operate specialized machinery for industrial welding or supervise robots.
  • Trim metal components using heat, fire, and electricity.
  • Take apart and dispose of large metal objects.
  • Monitor work environment for hazards and maintain healthy ventilation levels.
  • Follow safety protocols, including wearing protective gear.

Requirements

  • Completed a bona fide apprenticeship or have 8 years of previous experience in welding.
  • Knowledge in the construction or manufacturing industries.
  • Skilled in metal straightening and fabrication.
  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, Heli-Arc, Oxy Acetylene, and Soldering welding methods.
  • Ability to perform tasks of the trade and work at heights.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
