Overview
The Commissioning Mechanic (Automotive/Railcar) position involves handling commissioning, field modifications, troubleshooting, and repairs for the Railcar division. The role requires running tests, replacing mechanical and electrical parts, and performing software updates, with a focus on ensuring train cars are ready for service.
Responsibilities
- Handle commissioning of train cars and support warranty operations for locomotives and coaches.
- Troubleshoot and analyze mechanical and electrical failures.
- Perform repairs using mechanical drawings, schematics, and circuit plans.
- Use diagnostic software and laptops to assess onboard systems.
- Identify root causes of issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform predefined technical tasks and work packages on-site and remotely.
- Support customers remotely and on-site, providing 2nd and 3rd level user support.
- Coordinate and accomplish defined service operations and resolve product issues.
- Support in generating sales leads for predefined service offers.
- Document failures, repairs, and modifications in the database.
- Implement Field Modifications (FMIs) to enhance product quality.
- Communicate effectively with team members, site leads, and managers.
- Handle parts returns and repairs through the RMA process.
- Operate shop machinery and hand tools in a hands-on environment.
- Follow all company and industry safety standards and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; vocational training or practical experience preferred.
- Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Ability to use tools and a multimeter.
- Ability to read and understand schematics, maintenance, repair, and FMI documents.
Additional Information
- Pay Rate: $32/Hr.
- Duration: 10 Months
- Location: Chicago, IL (Onsite - approximately 15% travel – East or West Coast)
- Shift: 6 AM to 2:30 PM
