Overview
The Erection Mechanic is responsible for unloading, assembling, and testing electrical and hydraulic circuits on Intermodal and Industrial heavy equipment in outdoor environments. The role requires mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining communication with customers and coworkers.
Responsibilities
- Assemble Intermodal and Industrial heavy equipment at customer’s sites.
- Read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Perform troubleshooting and repair of systems and components as required.
- Maintain accurate records as required.
- Respond to customer-related equipment requests.
- Ensure compliance with railroad, safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel to customer sites out of town for weeks at a time.
- Work in different elevated heights up to 100 feet off the ground.
- Assist in delivering required training to coworkers.
- Communicate consistently on all activities to appropriate individuals.
- Maintain ongoing communication and adhere to Companywide policies.
- Participate in special projects or work as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3-5 years relevant work experience.
- Highly developed mechanical and electrical troubleshooting background.
- Extensive knowledge of crane equipment.
- Advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams on heavy equipment.
- Own tools applicable to the position.
- Strong teamwork, verbal, and written skills.
- Factory training certifications are a plus.
- Ability to meet deadlines and follow instructions.
- Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assemblies.

Additional Information
- Work outdoors in all seasons with exposure to noise, chemicals, and heavy machinery.
- Ability to travel up to 70% to customer sites with overnight stays.
- Must provide basic tools.
