Overview
The Operating Mechanic A is responsible for operating and maintaining steam and electric generation equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation while adhering to safety protocols and regulatory standards. This role requires strong technical skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Operate boilers, turbines, generators, water treatment systems, fuel delivery systems, and auxiliary equipment in a steam generating station.
- Perform mechanical maintenance tasks and considerable manual labor.
- Qualify in various operating posts including Rover/field operator and Control Room operator.
- Troubleshoot equipment in the field that fails to start or stop.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and relevant power plant, Merchant Marine, United States Navy, or other related maintenance experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of boiler water chemistry and steam cycles required.
- Driver's License required.
Additional Information
- Ability to respond to system emergencies.
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays.
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment and may work non-business hours during emergencies.
