Overview
The Welding Specialist position involves overseeing inmate workers in a manufacturing environment, focusing on training, safety, and production efficiency. The role is part of Team North Dakota, which is dedicated to empowering individuals and improving lives.
Responsibilities
- Participate in hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating inmate workers.
- Ensure inmates receive mandatory pre-employment training and maintain training records.
- Maintain security and enforce safety rules and regulations.
- Perform inspections and resident searches; oversee resident conduct.
- Provide training in the proper use of tools and equipment and enforce quality control measures.
- Monitor production schedules and coordinate material flow.
- Oversee cycle counts and develop ways to increase production efficiencies.
- Perform and arrange for scheduled maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Maintain resident personnel files and may process inmate payroll.
- Initiate purchase requisitions and manage computerized inventories.
- Provide estimates and develop product structures.
- Analyze operations and make recommendations regarding production flow.
- Coordinate timely delivery of finished products and provide customer service.
- Supervise plant operations in the absence of the Industries Manager.
- Oversee residents performing yard work, janitorial functions, and building maintenance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of work experience in a related manufacturing, production, warehouse, or transportation environment.
- Experience must include quality control, inventory management, building product structures, and processing bills for materials.
- Welding experience is preferred.
- Ability to work with a resident population on a daily basis.
