Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications.
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
- Align components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamp pieces.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Exert heavy physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 25 pounds.
- Kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb, or crawl.
- Correctly rig and hoist material.
- Tolerate heights without fear.
- Maintain balance and stand or walk for long periods.
- Work in extreme weather conditions.
- Work long, irregular, and varied hours.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a welder.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing.
- Deftness and attention to detail.
- Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required.
- Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus.
