Overview
The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is seeking a Construction Laborer to assist in maintaining the city's infrastructure. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, responsible for keeping New York City healthy, safe, and clean.
Responsibilities
- Use a wide variety of heavy-duty, motor-powered equipment.
- Perform work in construction, repair, and maintenance of water supply distribution systems.
- Engage in the removal and replacement of broken drainage and sewer pipes.
- Repair broken water mains and leaking water services.
- Break pavements with hand or power-driven tools.
- Excavate and refill in the performance of work.
- Engage in the shoring and sheeting of excavations.
- Mix and use concrete as part of construction and repair work.
- Flush, clean, and excavate culverts, sewers, and drain basins.
- Operate various types of motor equipment.
- Keep records of work assignments and progress.
- Load and unload equipment and supplies.
Requirements
- Three years of satisfactory, full-time experience of a mechanical or construction nature.
- Completion of a two-year apprenticeship in repair and maintenance of water supply distribution systems.
- Possession of a New York State Class B Commercial Driver License or a Class D Motor Vehicle Driver License.
- Valid New York State Learner's Permit for a Class B Commercial Driver License.

- New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
- City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may reside in certain counties.
