Overview
The Structural Iron Worker/Welder is responsible for performing structural steel fabrication, fit-up, assembly, bolt-up, installation, and welding activities within a fabrication facility environment. This position requires proficiency in reading fabrication drawings and producing high-quality welds in accordance with approved procedures and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
- Layout, fit, align, and assemble structural steel components.
- Perform bolt-up assembly and structural steel installation activities.
- Weld structural steel components using FCAW and SMAW processes.
- Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical (3G), and overhead (4G) positions.
- Position, clamp, tack, and secure components prior to welding.
- Cut, prepare, fit, and repair structural steel members and plates.
- Perform visual inspection of welds and fabricated assemblies.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment safely.
- Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe condition.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of structural steel fabrication, iron working, or structural welding experience preferred.
- Must successfully pass Shaw's Structural FCAW 3G/4G and SMAW 3G/4G welding qualification tests.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
- Ability to perform structural welding in vertical and overhead positions.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Ability to safely work at heights utilizing ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, elevated work platforms, and structural steel members.
