The Pipe Fitter Helper position involves assisting in the layout, assembly, installation, and maintenance of pipe systems and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to specifications.
• Plan installation or repair to avoid obstructions and interference with other workers.
• Cut pipe using various tools including saws and pipe-cutting machines.
• Thread pipe using a pipe-threading machine.
• Bend pipe using pipe-bending tools and machines.
• Assemble and install metal and nonmetal pipes using various joint methods.
• Secure pipes to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers using tools.
• Install and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic components and equipment.
• Increase pressure in pipe systems and observe pressure gauges to test systems.
• May weld pipe supports to structural steel members.
• May observe production machines to detect malfunctions.
• May operate machinery to verify repairs.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must pass written Pipe Fitter Helper test.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly.
• Utilize basic math and a calculator for geometric problems.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various environments.
• Must be willing to work outside of craft.
• Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check.
