Overview
The Pipefitter is responsible for planning work by studying blueprints and specifications, installing and maintaining piping systems, and ensuring a safe work environment. The role requires knowledge of various piping systems and the ability to troubleshoot and repair issues as they arise.
Responsibilities
- Plans work by studying blueprints, diagrams, specifications, and construction.
- Installs piping by measuring, cutting, bending, shaping, fabricating, threading, soldering, and gluing pipe using hand tools and equipment.
- Insulates piping.
- Maintains piping by conducting operating tests, identifying, and repairing problems.
- Documents actions by completing records.
- Keeps tools and equipment operating by following operating instructions and performing preventive maintenance.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
Requirements
- Knowledge of piping systems including layouts, print reading, flanges, manways, gaskets, steam traps, and tubing.
- Experience with relief valves and general valve maintenance.
- Oxy-Act torch experience.
- Special skill of pipe welding is a plus.
- General knowledge of pumps, compressors, agitators, bearings, and seals.
- Must be available to work over 8 hours/day and over 40 hours/week.
- Must pass a written skills test and respirator fit test.
