Job Description

Overview

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Structural Shop in Baltimore, MD, where the Structural Worker Welder/Shipfitter will perform various welding tasks and fabrications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journeyman welding tasks in the 3G, 4G and fillet position using various welding techniques.
  • Identify different types of metal and alloys, determining thickness and proper grade.
  • Develop templates, layout, and fabricate complex and simple sub-assemblies.
  • Use plasma arc and oxy-acetylene torch for burning, flushing, and heating material.
  • Use lifting gear to move and regulate material on the job.
  • Erect hull components on site in accordance with specified lines.
  • Perform tack-welding tasks in the 3F and 4F positions.

Requirements

  • Experience with shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux core arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW).
  • Mandatory training required which must be successfully completed.
