Overview
The Pipefitter position involves inspecting, repairing, and maintaining plumbing, steam, and water systems throughout the campus. The incumbent works in various areas and is part of the Operations under the Engineering section.
Responsibilities
- Installs various types of valves such as relief valves and check valves.
- Installs, modifies, repairs and maintains utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment.
- Installs and monitors high-pressure piping systems and equipment including steam heating and vacuum systems.
- Makes repairs or replaces pressure regulators, relief valves, or vacuum breakers.
- Maintains and monitors the chlorine dioxide generator.
- Tests systems and equipment for proper pressures and operation.
- Evaluates systems and equipment for leak-free joints.
- Interprets and applies building plans, blueprints, and sketches.
- Uses accepted trade methods to install couplings, unions, and joints.
- Determines proper locations to install valves, traps, and unions.
- Plans the installation, maintenance, and repair of steam and plumbing fixtures.
- Determines tools, parts, equipment, and supplies needed.
- Uses monitoring devices for heat loss and temperature settings.
- Traces and locates malfunctions in piping systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoots/tests various plumbing systems and equipment.
- Maintains records on equipment repairs and maintenance.
Requirements
- Incumbent must be in satisfactory physical and mental condition.
- Good coordination and manual dexterity are required.
- Ability to work on ladders and in close quarters.
- Physical effort is required to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, walk, climb and lift heavy objects.
