Overview
General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking 10 Pipefitters (J1 to J4) for their Pipe Shop located in Norfolk, Virginia. The role involves ship construction, advanced ship repair, and maintenance for both commercial and national defense assets.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and sketches to install piping systems.
- Perform shop prefab on piping systems using sketches/templates.
- Understand and apply tag out procedures for piping systems.
- Bend piping manually or by machine and pack piping to avoid contortion.
- Hydrostatic test piping systems.
- Fit and install mechanically attached fittings.
- Thread piping and tap holes to proper sizes.
- Prep piping for welding using grinders or beveling machines.
- Install pipe hangers and supports according to drawings.
- Knowledge of various types of pipe and fitting materials.
Requirements
- Reliable transportation.
- Basic stick ruler measurements.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to work with general supervision and complete small tasks.
- Knowledge of installing various pipe hangers (Type 1 and Type 2).
- Torch safety knowledge.
- Basic blanking and tagging knowledge.
- Basic knowledge of ship design and layout.
- Familiarity with Work Authorization Forms (WAFs).
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and competent person tickets.
Additional Information
- Position requires all shifts (Day/Nights).
- No security clearance is required.
- Regular, reliable attendance on-site is essential.
- Weekend work and/or extended hours may be required.
