Overview
The Pipe Welder Supervisor at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in the installation and assembly of piping systems. This role requires compliance with safety regulations and effective management of crew performance to meet production goals.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in piping installation and assembly.
- Ensure regular attendance and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime.
- Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental regulations.
- Assign work and monitor progress on multiple assignments.
- Manage employees and plan for safe work practices.
- Identify and correct poor welding practices.
- Flag cranes and rig all types of lifts.
- Inspect welds for compliance with ABS specifications.
- Assist in troubleshooting piping systems.
- Ensure all welding inspection tasks are performed.
- Input time on a computer.
- Communicate effectively with team members.
- Set up and execute QA call outs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalence required.
- One to three years of previous shipyard experience required.
- One to three years of supervisory experience desired.
- Experience welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminum in the shipbuilding industry required.
- Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to read a tape measure.
Additional Information
- Position requires physical activity including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Employee must be able to work at heights of 50 feet or more and in confined spaces.
