Overview
The Welder 3 at Greenbrier performs complex manual and semi-automatic arc welding on railcar pressure vessels, ensuring high-quality standards and providing training to other welders. Responsibilities
- Performs complicated manual or semi-automatic arc welding of railcar parts on the pressure vessel, sub-assemblies, and assemblies.
- Maintains heat and speed of travel when using weld machines to assure penetration and weld bead size.
- Visually inspects weld work, repairs defective welds, and performs minor repairs to equipment.
- Performs occasional air arc or flame cutting to help repair defective welds.
- Helps train other welders in classes 1 and 2 by conducting on-the-job training.
- Operates forklift or overhead crane to move material.
- Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.
Requirements
- Required to pass applicable welding tests to work as a welder, including tests for welding on a pressure vessel.
- Ability to use weld gauges and computers.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints or weld drawings and procedures.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Ability to learn to operate a forklift and overhead crane and complete certifications required through company training.
- High School diploma or equivalency test/GED is preferred.
- 1+ years’ experience in production welding is preferred.
- Experience operating a forklift is preferred.
- Experience operating an overhead crane is preferred.

- Personal protective equipment such as head, eye, hearing, and foot protection is required.
