Overview
The Welder position at Progress Rail involves operating hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment to join work pieces together, ensuring safety and proficiency in various welding methods. Responsibilities
- Pass internal welding certification in conjunction with requirements under ISO, AAR, and other regulatory agencies.
- Retrieve materials assembled and weld into a finished product.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications.
- Operate angle grinders to prepare parts for welding.
- Interpret welding blueprints, assembly instructions, and bills of material.
- Maintain welding proficiency as required by Progress Rail QSP 4.9.
- Accurately use measuring devices such as tape measures and calipers.
- Use various hand tools and powered grinders and impact wrenches.
- Master various welds such as pipe weld, GMAW, SMAW, etc.
- Perform single and multi-pass welds in all positions.
- Conduct preventative and basic maintenance of weld machines and equipment.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.
- Train others in welding techniques.
- Be forklift certified.
Requirements
- Certified Welder preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in welding.
- Knowledge of various types of welding (Mig, MMA, Stick, Tig).
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Skill Level II – 1-2 years of experience as a welder.
- Skill Level III – 2-3 years of experience as a welder, certification in GMAW and FCAW preferred.
- Skill Level IV – 4-5 years of experience as a certified welder.
- Skill Level V – 5+ years of experience as a certified welder with all previous certifications.
