Overview
The Welder/Hand Build Technician is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating welding equipment to weld fabricated metal parts according to specifications. The role requires minimal supervision and involves performing critical welds where aesthetics are important.
Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment to weld metal parts or subassemblies according to specifications.
- Work from oral and written instructions with little or no supervision.
- Perform critical welds on loaders, subframes, and parts where cosmetics are important.
- Maintain company requirements in lean manufacturing and housekeeping practices.
- Follow ISO 9001 work practices and procedures.
- Use fabricated parts and manufacturing weld prints to perform open set-up operations.
- Position fabricated parts or subassemblies using jigs and fixtures.
- Prepare surfaces to be welded by grinding, buffing, sanding, and scraping.
- Visually examine welds for adherence to blueprint specifications.
- Maintain welding equipment and make necessary adjustments.
- Load and unload fixtures.
- Use measuring devices or gauges to check work.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Team Lead.
Requirements
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction.
- Must make decisions regarding product quality.
- Ability to carry out procedures and follow prescribed routines.
- Requires continuous activity of standing, stooping, bending, and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. of steel repeatedly throughout the day.
- Ability to push and/or pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. repeatedly.
- Ability to use simple grasping to hold welding gun or load parts.
- Ability to use a hoist or crane.
- Ability to drive an industrial fork truck.
- Continuous visual attention to detail.
