Overview
Ecology Auto Parts Inc. is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Welder / Fabricator to join our Fleet & Maintenance team at our Long Beach shop. This role is essential to maintaining the structural integrity, safety, and operational readiness of our transportation fleet.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate, repair, and modify truck bodies, trailers, frames, and fleet equipment using MIG, TIG, stick, and arc welding processes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine proper fabrication methods and welding techniques.
- Operate shop equipment including welders, plasma cutters, torches, grinders, shears, and other metal-forming tools safely and effectively.
- Perform structural repairs and reinforcements to ensure fleet safety and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Conduct visual inspections of welds to identify defects and ensure high-quality workmanship.
- Collaborate with mechanics and maintenance staff to assess repair needs and recommend fabrication solutions.
- Maintain welding equipment and tools in proper working condition; perform routine inspections and minor maintenance as needed.
- Follow OSHA safety regulations and Ecology Auto Parts policies regarding welding operations, hazardous materials, and shop procedures.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with shop standards.
- Assist with workflow coordination and task prioritization to meet maintenance and repair deadlines.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality within the Fleet & Maintenance department.
- Support special fleet projects and perform additional duties as assigned by the Shop Supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certification in welding or fabrication preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of welding and fabrication experience required; experience in heavy truck, trailer, automotive, or fleet maintenance environments highly preferred.
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, stick, and arc welding techniques.
- Strong knowledge of various metal types, grades, and appropriate welding and fabrication methods.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints accurately.
- Experience performing structural repairs on heavy equipment or commercial vehicles is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
- Working knowledge of welding safety practices and OSHA compliance standards.
- Effective problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Must provide personal hand tools; company provides specialty equipment.
- Successful completion of pre-employment screenings.
