Overview
The City of Covina is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department. This entry-level position involves performing routine maintenance work and operating various equipment related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of City infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Perform labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew or individually.
- Operate pneumatic power construction and maintenance equipment used in street maintenance and repair.
- Perform routine inspections on assigned equipment and refer defects to supervisor.
- Observe safe work methods and maintain compliance with safety practices.
- Assist in cleaning and repair work on storm drains, streets, curbs, and gutters.
- Set up traffic safety devices and barricades to control traffic around worksites.
- Maintain tools and equipment used in the field.
- Participate in the maintenance and repair of sewer mains and storm drains.
- Operate various motorized vehicles and equipment.
- Respond to sanitary sewer overflows and participate in clean-up.
- Fill out daily job reports and vehicle condition reports.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Six months of experience in general construction and maintenance or repair work.
- Valid California Class C driver's license.
- Valid California Class A Commercial driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements is highly desirable.
- Possess a California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Grade 1 or 2 certification is highly desirable.
- Forklift Operator certification within 11 months of hire.
- Successful completion of safe driving, CPR, and First Aid courses within 11 months of hire.

- Full-time position with general supervision from higher level operations staff.
