Overview
The Mechanic III position at a global leader in food & beverage ingredients involves repairs and maintenance of machinery and mechanical equipment. The role requires a candidate with a strong background in food manufacturing equipment and the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
Responsibilities
- Read and understand electrical schematics to locate and troubleshoot components on the equipment.
- Observe functionality of equipment to determine the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Complete preventative maintenance (PM) work as assigned and according to schedule.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical breakdowns.
- Perform maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems as needed.
- Complete changeovers as needed.
- Weld and machine parts with shop equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering blueprints.
- Service and maintain equipment including motors, conveyors, and production-related equipment.
- Make recommendations regarding working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
- Report and take necessary action to prevent food safety and quality problems.
- Identify causes of mechanical breakdowns and repair as needed.
- Conduct routine maintenance and safety checks.
- Rebuild mechanical assemblies such as capper chucks and horizontal bagger clips.
- Operate production equipment.
- Work off ladders and aerial platforms.
- Use hand power tools.
- Create and complete Work Orders into Computer Maintenance Monitoring System (CMMS).
- Perform building repairs as needed.
- Follow specific procedures for LOTO before making repairs.
- Attend daily and monthly safety meetings.
- Understand and follow good manufacturing practices (GMPs).
- Familiarize with OSHA safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Five to seven (5-7) years of experience as a maintenance mechanic is required.
- Experience using the internet, spreadsheets, and Maintenance Rating Program (MRP) is preferred.
- Certificates such as Certified Welding Certificate, Journeyman Machinist Certificate, Boiler Training Certificate & Better Processing School preferred.
- Understanding of production processing and quality control measurements.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and write simple correspondence.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety policies.
- Ability to stay up to date on new products, equipment, technology, and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Good communication skills are required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Ability to perform manual movement of parts and tools weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work weekends and overtime with little notice.
