Overview
Eventscape is seeking a junior Carpenter (Custom Millwork Fabricator) to join their wood shop. The ideal candidate will be a skilled craftsperson eager to learn about architectural millwork fabrication and work with various materials.
Responsibilities
- Manufacture and assemble high-quality custom architectural elements and structures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand project specifications.
- Determine tolerances and test project elements.
- Operate all woodworking machinery, finishing equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
- Work with different materials, including solid surfaces, epoxy, metals, melamine, solid wood, and wood products.
- Perform exact measurements and ensure precise installation of hardware and other elements.
- Perform wood finishing, sanding, staining, and applying finishes.
- Monitor quality across the team and ensure each piece is fabricated to a high standard.
- Plan and execute fabrication strategies; oversee and manage junior fabricators and assistants.
- Manage schedules to meet deadlines and provide consistent, regular project updates to management.
- Maintain awareness of inventory and requirements for upcoming projects.
- Ensure safe work practices are adhered to and follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area and facilitate required repairs and maintenance to all equipment.
Requirements
- Training from a relevant program such as woodworking, millwork, carpentry, or cabinetmaking OR an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience in finish carpentry.
- A passion for challenging fabrication and tight tolerances.
- Ability to self-motivate and be schedule conscious.
- Strong attention to detail and amazing problem-solving skills.
- Competency in reading and interpreting blueprints/drawings.
- Thorough understanding of health and safety principles and practices.
- Willingness to collaborate with a team and work independently when needed.
- In-depth understanding of fabrication processes and manufacturing/building materials.
- Experience with materials like wood, solid surfaces, fabric, acrylic, glass, and leather.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
