Overview
The position of Mechanic involves working with the Director of Transportation and staff to maintain school buses and district vehicles in safe operating condition. This full-time role requires mechanical expertise and compliance with safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects on all buses, vans, cars, and trucks in the transportation department.
- Detect, analyze, and repair any mechanical problems on all district vehicles.
- Maintain all vehicles in safe operating condition according to the latest safety standards.
- Indicate and identify the need for appropriate parts for repair.
- Maintain records of time, material, parts, warranties, and preventive maintenance.
- Perform annual emissions testing and certification inspections as required.
- Coordinate with state officials to perform annual emission and licensing inspections.
- Operate and perform tasks using modern mechanical and electrical testing and maintenance equipment.
- Promote and maintain a high standard of safety and housekeeping methods in all work areas.
- Comply with EOA, OSHA, ADOT, and DPS inspections and requirements.
- Serve as a bus driver when required.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal laws.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of five years mechanical experience in gasoline and diesel engines.
- Commercial driver's license (valid licensure must be maintained).
- Licensed in R-134a (valid licensure must be maintained).
