Job Description

Overview

The City of Dallas is seeking a Senior Welder to perform journey level fabrication and repair welding on various mechanized equipment and structures. This position offers a career with purpose, competitive benefits, and opportunities for growth within a vibrant work culture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair welding on large mowers, tractors, trucks, and heavy equipment.
  • Fabricate and weld metal components according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders.
  • Maintain welding supplies inventory and make purchasing recommendations.
  • Drive and operate a mobile welding unit for field repairs.
  • Assist in the mechanical repair of heavy equipment.
  • Train and assist apprentice welders in their job duties.
  • Perform any other trades work as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • Three years of welding experience.
  • Welding certificate from a trade school plus two years of required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Some positions require Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of welding principles, practices, techniques, safety precautions, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations for equipment modifications.
  • Ability to drive and operate a mobile welding unit.
  • Ability to perform overhead, horizontal, vertical, and flat welding.
  • Skilled in the use of arc and acetylene welding equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and design drawings.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.

  • Subject to evening and weekend shifts.
