Overview

The Pipeline Welder/Layout Fitter position involves performing specialized welds on gas and water mains, utilizing various welding techniques under supervision. The role requires adherence to safety regulations and the ability to interpret engineering drawings while working in challenging conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized welds on gas and water mains using arc and oxyacetylene processes.
  • Execute a variety of welding assignments using heliarc and brazing processes.
  • Conduct position and overhead welds and layout on pipe fittings, tie-ins, and branch connections.
  • Repair and install parts for equipment, machinery, piping, tools, and other metal objects.
  • Perform cutting, fitting, and brazing, including polyethylene fusions.
  • Make both oxyacetylene and electric welds of all types under difficult conditions.
  • Maintain and adjust welding equipment for gas and electric welding.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings.
  • Observe and enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Drive department vehicles and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section 9 and/or American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 certification and two years of experience welding pipelines, including Pipe Fitter experience.
  • Certificate of Completion from a Pipe Fitter program or related coursework, plus two years of experience welding pipelines.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Completion of Department of Transportation oxyacetylene and S.M.A.W. certifications prior to passing probation.
  • Compliance with the Anti-Drug and Alcohol Program as required by Federal regulations.
  • Willingness to work weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis.
