Overview
The Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee positions involve performing manual tasks requiring physical effort in various weather conditions, including operating plows during winter operations. Candidates must respond to emergency callouts and may serve in the Incident Command System during emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency callouts within 1 hour during inclement weather.
- Perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort.
- Operate plows during winter operations.
- Obtain necessary equipment certifications.
- Support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years old.
- Pass physical/medical examination and drug test.
- Possess a Class D Driver License for Trainee 1.
- Possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License for Trainee 2.
- Satisfactory completion of Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of relevant experience for Highway Maintenance Worker 1.
- Possess two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications and three specific certifications for Highway Maintenance Worker 1.
