Overview
The Donovan's Venom, INC. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing music, art, and entertainment to individuals in need. The Video Game Designer (Gameplay Design & Mechanics Development) is a volunteer role focused on designing and refining gameplay mechanics to enhance player experience in game projects.
Responsibilities
- Design gameplay mechanics such as movement, controls, combat, and player interactions.
- Ensure mechanics are intuitive and engaging.
- Focus on moment-to-moment gameplay feel and improve responsiveness.
- Develop and test gameplay prototypes and iterate based on feedback.
- Adjust gameplay elements for difficulty, responsiveness, and fairness.
- Implement mechanics within Unity or similar engines and collaborate with developers.
- Create and maintain gameplay documentation and mechanics descriptions.
- Work with developers, artists, and UX/UI teams for cohesive gameplay experience.
- Participate in playtesting sessions and analyze feedback.
- Adapt gameplay based on technical limitations and scope constraints.
- Improve gameplay quality over time and stay current with game design trends.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in game design, gameplay design, or interactive systems.
- Understanding of core gameplay mechanics and player interaction design.
- Experience with Unity or similar game engines is preferred.
- Experience working on game projects (academic, indie, or professional) is preferred.
- Experience in collaborative or remote teams is preferred.
Additional Information
- Estimated commitment of 8–12 hours per week.
- Flexible schedule with participation in game development meetings required.
- Fully remote position.
