Overview
The NCCER Pipefitter Journeyman position involves planning, laying out, installing, testing, and repairing various piping systems according to applicable standards. The role requires skilled experience and a strong working knowledge of different types of pipe systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintain working knowledge of various types of pipe and pipe systems.
- Read isometric drawings, take measurements, fabricate and install piping efficiently.
- Align, bolt, and clamp components of fabricated metal products for welding.
- Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications.
- Position and secure materials and workpieces during installation.
- Distinguish varying thickness and types of metal materials.
- Manually handle and securely apply rigging equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment including beveling machines, cut-off grinders, and pipe threaders.
- Layout and install equipment, vessels, skids, pumps, pipe, and supports.
- Hydro test piping systems.
- Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities for work activities.
- Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications.
Requirements
- May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous experience in the field.
- Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.
Additional Information
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
- Constantly works in a construction environment with changing outdoor weather conditions.
- May work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.
- May need to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access work areas.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment.
- May be required to move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
