Overview

The Charter County of Wayne is Michigan's largest county, offering a diverse economy and high quality of life. The Steamfitter position involves skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pipes and accessories for heating, steam, hot water, and refrigeration systems in county facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, test operate, and perform preventative maintenance on heating, steam, hot water, and refrigeration systems.
  • Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment according to blueprints.
  • Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment according to specifications.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
  • Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines using various methods.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment.
  • Select pipe sizes, types, or related materials according to specifications.
  • Cut or bore holes in structures prior to pipe installation.
  • Install and maintain pneumatic control systems and related accessories.
  • Install and maintain hydraulic systems and related piping, accessories, and controls.
  • Shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Cut metal components for installation.
  • Drill holes in construction materials.
  • Fabricate parts or components.
  • Install gauges or controls.
  • Install green plumbing or water handling systems.
  • Inspect plumbing systems or fixtures.
  • Inspect work sites to identify potential environmental or safety hazards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Steamfitter apprenticeship program.
  • Journeyman license.
  • Two years of post-secondary technical education or a recognized apprenticeship in heating and cooling system design and maintenance.
  • At least two years of experience in heating, ventilating, and cooling systems maintenance, repair, and welding.

Additional Information

  • Multiple shifts are available for this position.
  • First shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
  • Second shift: Monday-Friday, 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm.
