Overview

The Bus Maintainer – Group A (Auto Body Technician) Provisional position at New York City Transit involves maintaining, installing, inspecting, and repairing bus bodies and related equipment. This civil service role requires candidates to pass a civil service examination for permanent status.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, install, inspect, test, alter, and repair bus bodies and related equipment.
  • Service, repair, and install doors, seats, windows, and other components.
  • Make and repair sheet metal or fiberglass body sections.
  • Weld bus bodies and parts.
  • Disassemble bus bodies and parts using burning equipment.
  • Prepare vehicle bodies for painting and perform painting tasks.
  • Document work activities manually and electronically.
  • Read and interpret technical documents, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Drive motor vehicles and operate machinery.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time experience as a journey-level mechanic performing collision work or automotive welding.
  • Three years of full-time experience plus completion of specific training or education.
  • Completion of a vocational high school program in auto body and collision repair or related fields.
  • Graduation from a trade or technical school with relevant coursework.
  • An AAS degree or higher in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in New York State.
