The Bus Maintainer – Group A (Auto Body Technician) Provisional position at New York City Transit involves maintaining, installing, inspecting, and repairing bus bodies and related equipment. This civil service role requires candidates to pass a civil service examination for permanent status.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, install, inspect, test, alter, and repair bus bodies and related equipment.
- Service, repair, and install doors, seats, windows, and other components.
- Make and repair sheet metal or fiberglass body sections.
- Weld bus bodies and parts.
- Disassemble bus bodies and parts using burning equipment.
- Prepare vehicle bodies for painting and perform painting tasks.
- Document work activities manually and electronically.
- Read and interpret technical documents, diagrams, and schematics.
- Drive motor vehicles and operate machinery.
- Perform related work as required.
Requirements
- Four years of full-time experience as a journey-level mechanic performing collision work or automotive welding.
- Three years of full-time experience plus completion of specific training or education.
- Completion of a vocational high school program in auto body and collision repair or related fields.
- Graduation from a trade or technical school with relevant coursework.
- An AAS degree or higher in a related field from an accredited institution.
- Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in New York State.
