Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Structural Steel Shop Supervisor to lead daily operations in a busy steel fabrication facility. This role involves coordinating shop activities, supporting production goals, and providing leadership for welders, fitters, and other fabrication personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Help organize daily production activities to meet manufacturing schedules and customer deadlines.
  • Direct the work of welders, fitters, and fabrication team members throughout each shift.
  • Assign work based on production priorities while balancing labor and shop resources.
  • Monitor workflow and communicate production status, delays, or scheduling concerns to management.
  • Provide technical guidance involving fit-up, welding procedures, material layout, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Assist the team in resolving fabrication challenges and production issues.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime and keep production moving.
  • Perform additional leadership duties as needed to support shop operations.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure employees follow company safety policies.
  • Reinforce quality expectations throughout the fabrication process.
  • Partner with Quality Control personnel to verify completed work meets required specifications.
  • Assist with dimensional inspections, documentation, and quality checks when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and productive work environment.
  • Support onboarding and training for new employees.
  • Provide coaching and ongoing performance feedback to shop personnel.
  • Encourage teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across the fabrication team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading or supervising structural steel fabrication operations.
  • Strong background in structural steel fabrication, including welding, fit-up, and material layout.
  • Experience operating or working with CNC fabrication equipment and other shop machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and production documents.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication workflows, quality standards, and workplace safety practices.
  • Experience with Tekla EPM/GO is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules as production demands require.
