Job Description

Overview

The Pipefitter performs duties at the journeyman Maintenance Mechanic Pipefitter level, requiring knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting, and mechanical skills. The role involves working on various systems including steam distribution, water supply, and medical gas, while also performing maintenance on mechanical equipment and appliances.

Responsibilities

  • Receive work assignments from the supervisor through work orders, oral instructions, building plans, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Work on steam piping, valves, steam straps, and steam powered equipment.
  • Install and perform maintenance on all plumbing fixtures and equipment.
  • Work with all types of piping and valves including copper, galvanized, black, cast iron, PVC, ABS, glass, and fuse seal.
  • Perform rough-in, set and finish, and soft and silver solders.
  • Assemble and repair wheelchairs, beds, stands, lockers, and various equipment.
  • Conduct welding repairs using electric arc and oxyacetylene methods.
  • Utilize power operated equipment such as pipe threading machines and drill presses.
  • Process invoices using strong credit card skills.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections as mandated by the National Fire Protection Association and Joint Commission.
  • Plan and lay out proposed work for new installations or corrections in the pipefitting utility system.
  • Perform minor HVAC work including repairing thermostats and replacing air filters.
  • Perform minor electrical work such as replacing ballasts and fixtures.
  • Use a PC to enter work orders and order parts.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting, and mechanical skills.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and moisture conditions.
  • Physical agility to climb ladders and crawl in cramped spaces.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
