Overview
The Pipefitter position at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY involves modifying, maintaining, and repairing various high, medium, and low pressure piping systems. The role requires a range of plumbing and steam fitting skills to ensure the proper functioning of utility systems within a healthcare facility.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, adjust, clean, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems.
- Maintain steam operated equipment, heating and water systems, kitchen and laundry equipment, air compressors, and medical compressed air systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems.
- Apply accepted steam fitting and pipefitting trade methods to solve on-site issues.
- Interpret and apply building plans and blueprints.
- Utilize shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs, and circles.
- Conduct repairs and installations in hard-to-reach places using ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
- Lay out and install piping, risers, and flexible branches at proper levels and inclines.
- Test systems and equipment for proper circulation, flow, pressure, leak-free joints, and drainage.
- Diagnose plumbing system malfunctions and make appropriate repairs or modifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Physical requirements include standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Employee may handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional items weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Work conditions are often dirty, dusty, greasy, and smelly, with frequent exposure to uncomfortable heat conditions.
