Overview
The Pipefitter position at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY involves modifying, maintaining, and repairing various piping systems, including high, medium, and low pressure systems.
Responsibilities
- Inspecting, adjusting, cleaning, and repairing plumbing fixtures and systems.
- Maintaining steam operated equipment, heating and water systems, kitchen and laundry equipment.
- Conducting preventive maintenance on utility systems and applying trade methods to solve issues.
- Interpreting and applying building plans and blueprints.
- Utilizing shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs, and circles.
- Conducting repairs and installations in hard-to-reach places using ladders and scaffolding.
- Laying out and installing piping, risers, and flexible branches at the proper level and incline.
- Testing systems for proper circulation, flow, pressure, and leak-free joints.
- Diagnosing plumbing system malfunctions and making appropriate repairs.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Capability to handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Experience working from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
