Job Description

Overview

The Pipefitter position at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY involves modifying, maintaining, and repairing various piping systems, including high, medium, and low pressure systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting, adjusting, cleaning, and repairing plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Maintaining steam operated equipment, heating and water systems, kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Conducting preventive maintenance on utility systems and applying trade methods to solve issues.
  • Interpreting and applying building plans and blueprints.
  • Utilizing shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs, and circles.
  • Conducting repairs and installations in hard-to-reach places using ladders and scaffolding.
  • Laying out and installing piping, risers, and flexible branches at the proper level and incline.
  • Testing systems for proper circulation, flow, pressure, and leak-free joints.
  • Diagnosing plumbing system malfunctions and making appropriate repairs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Capability to handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience working from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
