Overview

Comfort Systems USA Mid South is a leading mechanical services company specializing in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing services for commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. The Journeyman Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding and fabrication of piping systems and structural components for mechanical projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform SMAW, GTAW (TIG), and GMAW welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and welding procedures.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install piping systems.
  • Inspect welds to ensure compliance with codes and project specifications.
  • Maintain welding equipment and ensure proper setup and operation.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Coordinate with pipefitters, foremen, and supervisors on jobsite activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of commercial or industrial welding experience.
  • Ability to pass required weld tests (X-ray quality preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG, TIG, and Stick work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
