Overview

CAF is an international market leader for the design, manufacture, maintenance, and supply of equipment and components for integrated transport systems. The Rail Services Technician position involves maintenance and engineering tasks at the Houston Depot Facility, focusing on the overhaul of bogies and wheelsets.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and assemble bogies, wheelsets, and their associated sub-components.
  • Carry out basic electrical and pneumatic disconnection and functional testing.
  • Support non-destructive inspections to ensure integrity, safety, and quality of components.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections using precision measuring tools.
  • Identify wear, damage, and non-conformances, documenting findings in inspection reports.
  • Conduct component cleaning and preparation for sandblasting and painting/coating.
  • Assist with non-destructive testing (NDT) processes and support quality assurance checks.
  • Reassemble bogies following technical drawings and torque specifications.
  • Operate shop tools and heavy equipment such as presses, cranes, and hydraulic tools.
  • Align, fit, and assemble component parts using hand tools and blueprints.
  • Verify specifications by measuring and testing completed components.
  • Install, repair, and service specialized mechanical equipment and wiring/harnesses.
  • Follow safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE requirements.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and quality inspectors to resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED; Technical school or associated certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years industrial maintenance related experience.
  • Proven experience in a heavy engineering, rail, automotive, aerospace, or similar precision mechanical environment.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical overhaul, assembly, and testing of large components.
  • Competent in the use of lifting and handling equipment.
  • Strong skills in mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment troubleshooting.
  • Strong troubleshooting and blueprint schematics reading skills.
  • Self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Familiarity with NDT methods (MT, UT) would be a plus.
