Overview
A Technician I installs, maintains, and repairs commercial door and dock equipment at customer locations. The role requires mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, a safety-first mindset, and a strong commitment to customer service.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, and maintain commercial dock and door equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and company standards.
- Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on a wide range of dock and door equipment, including rolling and sectional doors.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment to fabricate brackets, mounts, and other installation hardware as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean job site, comply with all company safety policies, industry regulations, and adhere to all traffic laws and vehicle safety standards while operating company equipment.
- Read and interpret manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to assist with equipment diagnostics and repair.
- Document all service activities, including work performed, parts used, and recommendations for future maintenance or repair.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, providing updates on job status and explaining any additional service needs.
- Assist team members with larger installations or service calls as needed and remain flexible to support changing priorities and schedules.
- Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and industry regulations, including proper use of PPE and fall protection.
Requirements
- Graduated from the Apprentice level course work in the Advance Program, or a Level 1 assessment to be approved based on Advance program.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Trade school certificate or diploma is acceptable.
- Experience with Welding, Mechanical Knowledge, Hydraulic knowledge, and Electrical is preferred.
- Previous Dock and Door Industry experience is preferred.
- A valid current state-issued driver’s license is required.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems related to commercial door and dock equipment is essential for diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
- Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment is required for the effective installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and manuals is critical for accurate troubleshooting and equipment setup.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and proper use of PPE ensures a safe working environment on all job sites.
- Skill in communicating effectively with customers and team members supports strong client relationships and team collaboration.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to shifting schedules is necessary to succeed in a dynamic field service environment.

- Extended periods in varying environmental conditions, including weather and noise.
- Frequent standing, bending, ladder use, and operation of hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- This job requires less than 10% planned business travel.
