Overview
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic position involves performing preventative and corrective maintenance on specialized railway construction equipment and other related vehicles. The role is with RailWorks, a leading rail maintenance and infrastructure solutions provider in North America, offering opportunities for career growth in a collaborative work environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with work equipment.
- Work from blueprints, service manuals, and schematic drawings.
- Conduct inspections and tests, repair or replace parts in remote locations outdoors.
- Evaluate parts for reuse, repair, or replacement.
- Use cutting torches and welders for fabrication tasks.
- Operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts.
- Diagnose equipment problems and take corrective action.
- Adapt to new methods, processes, materials, and equipment.
- Prepare and submit equipment maintenance records and time sheets.
- Follow prescribed safety procedures and maintain cleanliness in the shop.
- Work on heavy-duty equipment such as Excavators and Backhoes.
- Assist other Heavy Duty Mechanics when needed.
Requirements
- 2nd Term Mechanic Apprentice.
- Previous field service experience.
- Previous rail experience is an asset.
- Own tools required.
- DZ or higher driver's license is an asset.
- Safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience.
- Ability to follow instructions, rules, and regulations.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as a valuable member of a team.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting and repair background.
- Fluent in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical components and systems.

Additional Information
- Working hours during the probation period will be straight day shift; after that, hours will change based on business needs.
- Works both outdoors at construction sites and in the shop.
- Ability to work rotating shifts.
