Job Description

Overview

The Maintenance Worker position involves repairing and maintaining compactors, both interior and exterior, as well as performing minor electrical repairs and inspecting public buildings for defects. This role is part of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and encourages applications from residents and individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain interior and exterior compactors.
  • Make minor repairs to the electrical system of the compactors.
  • Repair and maintain deodorizing systems for compactors.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.
  • Visually inspect public buildings, structures, and equipment for defects and hazardous conditions.
  • Prepare inspection reports using Maximo.

Requirements

  • Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a mechanic, journeyperson, or helper in the electrical or mechanical trades, or in construction or maintenance of buildings.
  • At least two years of full-time satisfactory experience plus sufficient training or education in the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience.
  • Knowledge of electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • A driver's license is required.
