The Utility Worker w/CDL position involves installing, maintaining, and repairing water service equipment under supervision, while operating various construction equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment and drives utility vehicles.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs water mains, pipes, valves, pumps, hydrants, and other equipment.
  • Performs water taps and closures in work areas.
  • Sets drilling machines and taps water mains to required sizes.
  • Disassembles fire hydrants, removes defective parts, installs new parts, and reassembles hydrants.
  • Replaces water valves and operates air compressors and pneumatic drills.
  • Digs trenches to remove defective pipes and install new pipes and mains.
  • Yarns, pours, and caulks joints; loads and unloads pipes and fittings.
  • Excavates and backfills trenches and culverts.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces water and sewer mains.
  • Repairs valves and hydrants, drills, and installs taps in mains.
  • Conducts grounds keeping and landscaping functions, including brush cutting and debris removal.
  • Operates commercial-grade lawn mowers and landscaping tools.
  • Operates snowplowing equipment and chainsaws.
  • Performs fence repairs and collects system samples when directed.
  • Assists employees of a higher classification as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Must participate in emergency stand-by rotation.
  • Must respond to the yard within forty-five minutes of notification.
  • Ability to operate a 90-pound jackhammer.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
