Overview
The Supervisor, Mechanics position involves overseeing maintenance and repair services for the institution's utility and infrastructure systems, including mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and controls/smart building systems. The role requires strong leadership skills and a focus on energy efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provides direction, training, and motivation to a team of technical staff.
- Maintains highly energy efficient operations of complex infrastructure systems.
- Communicates effectively with stakeholders regarding project status and changes.
- Develops scope of work for projects and identifies necessary materials and labor.
- Directs and monitors contractors and vendors' performance.
- Performs routine inspections of campus infrastructure systems.
- Evaluates and schedules planned and emergency shutdowns of utility systems.
- Ensures staff obtain and maintain required NYC certifications.
- Cross-covers supervisory positions in other trade areas as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field is highly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or construction.
- Approximately 5 plus years in a previous supervisory capacity is preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex interrelationships between mechanical systems.
- Ability to work on off-shifts and be available for 24-hour emergency call-ins.
- Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance trades such as plumbing and controls is highly desired.
Additional Information
- Location includes Upper East Side, Brooklyn, Lower East Side, Midtown, and West Side.
- Work days are weekdays and some weekends.
- Weekly hours are 40.00.
- Exempt status.
