Overview
The Power Cable Maintainer position involves maintaining, installing, inspecting, testing, altering, and repairing power feeder and communication cable systems under supervision. Candidates must pass a civil service exam and have relevant experience or education to qualify for this civil service role.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, install, inspect, test, alter, and repair power feeder cable systems and communication cable systems.
- Splice single and three-conductor lead-covered cables and multi-conductor control and communication cables.
- Conduct tests for faults and handle asbestos-containing materials.
- Remove waste matter from manholes and cableways to access cables.
- Drive motor vehicles and prepare reports.
Requirements
- Completion of a four-year full-time electrical line worker apprenticeship or similar.
- Four years of full-time journey-level experience as an electrical line worker, telecommunications line worker, or industrial electrician.
- Three years of journey-level experience plus additional qualifications such as two years of satisfactory experience or relevant educational credentials.
- Must have a valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York.
- Must pass a drug screening and medical examination.
