Overview
Hornblower Group is a global leader in experience and transportation, operating the largest private fleet of high-speed passenger and vehicle ferries in the United States. The Marine Diesel Technician is responsible for the maintenance of diesel engines and generators onboard fleet vessels.
Responsibilities
- Accept tasks from the Engineering Supervisor and plan/implement execution.
- Perform all diesel engine maintenance onboard vessels, including engine overhauls and troubleshooting.
- Ensure safety during task execution.
- Issue and manage company power tools for technicians.
- Follow company warranty procedures.
- Complete and submit all shift paperwork accurately.
- Communicate important vessel information to supervisors and the chain of command.
- Maintain high levels of quality and professionalism.
- Use approved Hazmat for paints, solvents, and cleaning agents.
- Perform cleaning and custodial tasks on vessels and property.
- Assist the Port Engineer with compliance to safety and environmental regulations.
- Ensure the vessel is in an inspection-ready condition.
- Assist with filling water, bunkering fuel, and connecting/disconnecting shore power.
- Perform additional job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma.
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), or ability to obtain and maintain.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification, or ability to obtain and maintain.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Copy of DD214 if Veteran status.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with passengers, guests, and fellow employees.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment.
- Mechanical and electrical experience required.
- Marine mechanical experience highly desired.
- Proven track record running a maintenance shift highly desired.
- Proven track record of successful teamwork.
- Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG.
Additional Information
- Three shifts available: Night shift (5:00 PM - 1:30 AM), Morning shift (4:00 AM - 12:30 PM), Swing shift (9:00 AM - 5:30 PM).
- Location: Brooklyn Navy Yard.
