Overview

Hornblower Group is a global leader in experience and transportation, operating the largest private fleet of high-speed passenger and vehicle ferries in the United States. The Marine Diesel Technician is responsible for the maintenance of diesel engines and generators onboard fleet vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Accept tasks from the Engineering Supervisor and plan/implement execution.
  • Perform all diesel engine maintenance onboard vessels, including engine overhauls and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure safety during task execution.
  • Issue and manage company power tools for technicians.
  • Follow company warranty procedures.
  • Complete and submit all shift paperwork accurately.
  • Communicate important vessel information to supervisors and the chain of command.
  • Maintain high levels of quality and professionalism.
  • Use approved Hazmat for paints, solvents, and cleaning agents.
  • Perform cleaning and custodial tasks on vessels and property.
  • Assist the Port Engineer with compliance to safety and environmental regulations.
  • Ensure the vessel is in an inspection-ready condition.
  • Assist with filling water, bunkering fuel, and connecting/disconnecting shore power.
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification, or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Copy of DD214 if Veteran status.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with passengers, guests, and fellow employees.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment.
  • Mechanical and electrical experience required.
  • Marine mechanical experience highly desired.
  • Proven track record running a maintenance shift highly desired.
  • Proven track record of successful teamwork.
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG.

Additional Information

  • Three shifts available: Night shift (5:00 PM - 1:30 AM), Morning shift (4:00 AM - 12:30 PM), Swing shift (9:00 AM - 5:30 PM).
  • Location: Brooklyn Navy Yard.
