Overview
The City of Dallas is seeking a Mechanic I to assist with preventive maintenance and repair of motorized equipment, ensuring operational capacity at water treatment plants and pumping stations. Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and periodic maintenance, inspections, and repairs to automotive equipment and power tools.
- Repair and maintain hydraulic equipment using hand and special tools.
- Assist in the inspection, dismantling, repair, adjustment, and installation of large water pumps and electric motors.
- Sharpen lawn mowing blades and perform minor maintenance on mowing equipment.
- Complete job tickets, work orders, and keep records of work performed.
- Drive a wrecker to work sites for repairs or retrieval of city vehicles.
- Communicate with employees and vendors to coordinate repairs and obtain materials.
- Maintain tools and equipment on assigned vehicle.
- Perform all other work as needed or assigned.
- Be subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) on-call duties.
Requirements
- One year of experience in mechanical maintenance or repair of automotive, truck, or industrial equipment.
- An Associate's degree or certificate in automotive or mechanical technology can substitute for the required experience.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Knowledge of basic mechanical principles and tool use.
- Ability to diagnose and plan repairs for automotive and diesel mechanical problems.
- Ability to read and understand automotive and mechanical repair manuals.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to complete apprenticeship training for maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Welding skills are a plus.
