Overview
The Underground Equipment Operator is an entry-level position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The role requires travel to various locations, including potentially out of state, depending on customer demands.
Responsibilities
- Work safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized underground systems.
- Assist with installing underground transformers.
- Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Work around energized high voltage systems with care.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Perform rigorous physical labor.
- Understand proper use of company radio and operation of heavy equipment.
- Learn basic knowledge of materials used.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on circuits.
- Assist with installation and hookup of single-phase transformers.
- Understand equipment setup and grounding concepts.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Check voltage on transformers and understand flag and tag procedures.
- Install and remove services.
- Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify different types of materials used.
- Work live high voltage distribution lines.
- Work outside in inclement weather.
Requirements
- 5 years minimum of recent field experience.
- Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
- A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
- Able to travel long distances on short notice.
- Able to work for extended periods in various locations.
- Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Willing to work overtime when requested.
- Willing to work outside of normal schedule including weekends and holidays.
