Overview
The Cable Splicer is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical underground systems, working on both energized and de-energized systems. The position requires travel to various job sites and reports to the Foreman, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized underground systems while prioritizing safety.
- Lead crew members in the absence of the Employee in Charge and conduct pre-job and tailgate safety briefings.
- Train and mentor apprentices and groundmen.
- Install and repair underground power conductors and related hardware.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines.
- Work in confined spaces and near energized equipment.
- Operate backhoes, bucket trucks, digger trucks, and mini excavators.
- Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme weather.
- Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
- Perform live-line work using approved gloving and hot-stick techniques.
- Follow all safety protocols and understand insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of recent underground experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
