Overview
The MELTER LEADER position at the Naval Foundry & Propeller Center of Norfolk Naval Shipyard involves operating and maintaining electric furnaces for melting various materials while leading a team of employees.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a variety of electric furnaces ranging in capacity from 50 lbs. to 85 tons.
- Prepare the furnace for operation in accordance with applicable instructions.
- Charge the furnace with known material, ignite/energize the furnace, and send samples of resultant melts to the Quality Assurance Test Laboratory for analysis.
- Add alloying metals, flux, and other materials in proper sequence during the melting operation.
- Lead three or more employees in performing work typical of the WG-3701-10 series.
- Assist immediate supervisor in scoping work package, studying all pertinent plans and references, preparing work sites, and fulfilling all tooling and material needs.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Must wear personal protective equipment continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Experience and training must demonstrate the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary for the position.
