The Instrument Maker III role involves overseeing the modification, maintenance, and repair of laboratory instrumentation and equipment while providing guidance to students and lower-level Instrument Makers.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain machinery such as milling machines and computer-controlled mills.
- Modify, repair, and rebuild laboratory equipment according to design specifications.
- Fabricate and assemble equipment.
- Instruct students in the safe operation of shop equipment.
- Provide guidance to lower-level Instrument Makers.
- Confer with shop customers regarding work requirements.
- Provide input to the design of equipment.
- Assist supervisor in shop operations during absences or high volume production.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten years of job-related experience.
- Advanced-level skills in fabrication techniques, use of shop math, reading prints and drawings, sheet metal work, equipment repair, materials and components identification and selection, welding and soldering, and use of machine tools and hand/power tools.
- Skills in work guidance and communication.
